What is GitHub Satellite?

GitHub Satellite is our annual international product and community event featuring GitHub product experts, software leaders, and enterprise teams who are building the world’s most important technologies. This year's event will be broadcast live starting at 9am PT / 6pm CEST on May 6, 2020 and available on demand immediately after.

Why is Satellite virtual this year?

To keep our community safe during the global COVID-19 pandemic, Satellite is going to be a virtual event. From the very beginning, GitHub has been built on the power of asynchronous and remote collaboration, and we’re applying it all to making Satellite virtual.

What can I do to participate in Satellite 2020?

Tune in on May 6 on the Satellite site and:

  • Watch GitHub CEO Nat Friedman’s keynote
  • Join breakout sessions
  • Ask speakers questions
  • Join dedicated chat experiences
  • Download resources
  • Enjoy musical and art performances

Do I need to register in advance?

No action needed to join the event on May 6, but you’ll need to register if you’d like to join a hands-on workshop session on May 7 and you'll need a GitHub account if you want to ask questions or engage with speakers. To access all other sessions, go to githubsatellite.com on (or after) May 6. We recommend adding a calendar invite for the keynote and other sessions to make sure you don’t miss out on the live experience.

What does the conference cost?

GitHub Satellite is completely free this year. Just tune in on May 6. Since space is limited for Workshops on May 7, attendees will need to pay $50 to reserve a spot—but we’re donating 100% of Workshop fees to Banque Alimentaire, Food Bank for New York City, and Global FoodBanking Network. Register and learn more on our Workshops page.

How do I log on?

We’re providing all content ungated on the Satellite site. To comment or ask questions, you’ll need to have a GitHub account. Stay tuned for details about attending workshops if you register.

How will the sessions work?

Each session will begin at its scheduled time, so keep the livestream running while you work or build a personalized agenda by setting individual calendar reminders for the sessions that interest you the most and tune in for those. And while watching sessions, you will be able to join the conversation and ask questions live—more details to come.

What if I miss a session or can’t attend a session

Every session will be recorded and made available soon after it ends. If you’re double-booked or tuning in from a different time zone after the live session time, you can catch up by clicking on past session titles in the Schedule once they are uploaded.

What are Satellite Workshops?

Workshops are a virtual learning experience on May 7, the day after the main event, to help developers get hands on with GitHub platform tools, GitHub Enterprise, and more. See the Workshop schedule

What time are the live workshops?

Workshops run between 7am PT / 16 CET and 11:30am PT / 20:30 CET on May 7. See the Workshop schedule

How can I register for a Workshop? How much does it cost to attend?
